Biriyani is an upcoming Indian Tamil comedy film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. It will feature Karthi and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles.
Yuvan Shankar Raja tunes the tracks for this film, while Sakthi Saravanan handles July Cinematography, Stunts performed by Silva and editing by Praveen K. L.. The production team approached Samantha to do the heroine role. Meanwhile, Ileana D'Cruz and Parineeti Chopra are also on the list.Initially it was said that Richa Gangopadhyay would be the heroine, but suddenly she was removed.Meanwhile Venkat Prabhu’s preference is Nayantara, with whom he has good vibes.
In late October 2012, Hansika Motwani was signed to play the leading lady of the film, putting all rumours to a stop.A sizzling UK beauty, Mandy Takhar has been roped in for the role. The UK born actor has done a few Punjabi films and was noted for her hot bikini act in the Hindi flick Bamboo in which she did a hot number called Pinky Punjabi. Venkat Prabhu has roped in the newly married couple Sneha and Prasanna for this film.The latest addition to this multi-starrer movie is Ramki. Canadian film critic Review Raja is doing a dance number choreographed by Shobhi.
The shoot was kick started on November 5, 2012 with the pair of hero Karthi and Premji Amaren who is playing a prominent role in the film. The first day of shoot involved scenes between Karthi and Premji, which was carried out on a set inside a house near the Kodambakkam railway station in Chennai. Motion capture technology was used to film a fight sequence shot at Puducherry.

1 crore was errected in Chennai, where action scenes and songs were shot for the film.The unit then took a break as Karthi moved on to shoot his other film All in All Azhagu Raja simulataneously, and filming was continued on 30 March 2013 in Hyderabad.
After completing a 10-day schedule in Hyderabad, the crew went on to start the third schedule of Biriyani at the Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) in Chennai. Vijay Vasanth, Vaibhav Reddy, Ashwin Kakumanu, Aravind Akash and Mahat Raghavendra, who were all part of Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha, dropped by Hyderabad for a day to partake in the shooting. Venkat Prabhu further disclosed the crew will be heading to Spain and Portugal in May to shoot two songs involving Karthi and Hansika.

Venkat Prabhu convinced Karthi to sing a song for the soundtrack, which was recorded in December 2012. In March 2013, Venkat Prabhu informed that two songs had been recorded and two more songs had been composed already, while two more were left for to work on, which are both background songs, to be shown in montage. Composer A R Rahman will be releasing the audio CD of Biryani. Sony Music has acquired the audio right's of the film.
Director Venkat Prabhu and Karthi’s combo film Biriyani has wrapped up the film’s major shooting schedules and the makers are in plans to release the movie in the final week of August while the audio will hit the stores in July.
